"CUT-OFF MARK.."

The cut-off mark for JAMB is 200 and indeed many other institutions and companies have standards to uphold and anything short of that isn't acceptable. This is wonderful in this case but..Marriage is way different! If you have a supposed 'standard' aside the person being a child of God, no matter who comes your way to ask your hand in marriage, he/she will never get to that cut-off mark.

If in your heart for example as a sister you've set a standard that your man should be tall, well built, have a British accent, work in an oil company, be riding the latest range rover, own a house, be a member of a particular denomination, have sisters with long hair(so that your female child won't have a short hair), then it will be very difficult to hear God's mind on the issue of marriage. Your standard has set the bar as a result anyone lower than that can't be called your husband.
Same with a brother expecting to get married to a graduate of law or any of those professions, must be in the choir, wears glasses, completely perfect without a past, from a wealthy background, without any facial flaws, he might miss it and not know what God actually has planned out for him.

Mind you, all these desires are good, but making them the basis of your choice or watch word other than inner virtues, character and righteousness is more like concentrating on the minor. Let God choose for us! An open mind in the area of choosing a life partner cannot be over emphasized. If you already have a negative mindset towards a person no matter what that person does to prove himself/herself right, it will never be good in your sight. Our physical eyes cannot see beyond our nose and so we need God's help and the Holy Spirit. Let God speak to our heart without our will interfering with it. Though it might appear vague, but I see God ready to help any willing heart today. Remain Blessed!!!
